MJT and PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTING

MJT is a electrical and electronic equipment testing subsidiary of Copplestone Stores. MJT provides testing and certification service to business and private clients alike. MJT is run by Michael James one of the two Partners of Copplestone Stores.

Michael is a qualified Electronics Engineer. Before taking over Copplestone Stores he accumulated many years of practical experience in the field of electronics, working as a Government Scientist and then as a Principle Engineer and Project Manager with a large multi-national company. Consequently, when it came to updating and testing the electrical appliances at Copplestone Stores, it was only natural he should undertake the task himself. However, to meet current Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines, it was necessary for Michael to add to his qualifications.

To enhance his skills and ensuring that Copplestone Stores Appliances are Electrically Safe Michael has taken a course in Plymouth College to undertake the work for the Copplestone Business in checking equipment for “Electrical Safety “, known as PAT or Portable Appliance Testing. Michael successfully passed the City & Guilds exam in May 2009 and is therefore a certified PAT Engineer.

Then to enable the work to be undertaken a comprehensive Tester with support Software has been purchased during 2009 by MJT. These new tools will automatically Test and provide digital records of the Test Results, which can then be Emailed or printed as paper copy as required or desired by individual clients.

This service is now available to any Company or Individual that would like their equipment checked and tested in accordance with ”IEE Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment”. The Electrical Safety Checking procedure is normally part of the contract requirements for Business Insurance. All business big or small is required to have a policy for electrical safety and the most recognised is in accordance with ”IEE Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment”.
